Ko Rattanakosin is actually the city core of Bangkok which protected by series of cannals built by the King and effectively turn it into an island ('Ko' is the Thai word for 'island').

Next to the Ministry of Defense is Bangkok's City Pillar shrine. The pillar was driven into the ground on the auspiscious time and date of 6:45 a.m. on the 21st of April in 1782, the official date of Bangkok's founding. Across the street from the City Pillar is the large open space of Sanam Luang. These parade grounds are the site of many important ceremonies and celebrations. Between late February and April, the grounds are also the main place to see traditional Thai kite fights.

Ko Rattanakosin can be reached by Chaophraya Tourist Boat to the Thien Pier, or by public bus or taxi to Wat Po. All of these sites around Ko Rattanakosin is within walking distance. Except for the Grand Palace and/or Wat Po, you can have a one day go explore these places of Ko Rattanakosin.

Wildlife Attractions are another interesting thing to see in Bangkok. Some of these attractions are the Khao Yai National Park, elephant ride, the Tiger Temple, Snake Farm, Crocodile Farm and Safari World.

The Khao Yai National Park is located around 108 miles northeast Bangkok. As Thailand reserve area, this park is home to over 153 different species of animals, including 200-300 wild elephants, as well as other rarely seen mammals such as Asiatic black bear, tiger, leopards, barking deer to name a few. Exotic birds such as the great hornbill and the Himalayan ribbed bats also live inside the park and are protected by law. Some spesific attractions available are :
  • There are over 50 km of hiking trails. From easy to hard, one hour to three days. A guide is recommended for most trails if the tourist has no experience.
  • Kayaking and rafting.
  • Night time wildlife spotlighting.
  • Observation towers at Nong Pak Chee or Mo Sing.
  • At about 5:30 at night thousands of wrinkled lipped bats emerge from a cave 3km outside the northern gate to begin night time feeding. The bats fly in a ribbon pattern across the sky.

Having elephant ride during your visit to Bangkok is consider a must. Since elephants can be spot easily almost every where, even in the city streets. And to have the nature journey, you can have the ride along with your visit to the National Park or to the Tiger Temple. Some of the travel agen or tour agents offering their package with the elephant ride as part of the tranportation.

The Tiger Temple is actually the Theravada Buddhist temple. As it incidentally became a wildlife sactuary for numerous animals from forest around it, specially orphan tiger cubs whos their mother had been killed by poachers, the temple then continue to be a home for more than 50 tigers. Some of them even born there. The temple is open daily from 12 to 4pm and the monks who taking care of these tigers, usually walked them to a nearby quarry where visitors can greet, sit with even pet them. There is an admission fee applied, which will be used to support the temple's effort as a sanctuary. This temple can be reached only few hours journey from Bangkok. Plenty of places on Khao San Rd can give options of how to get to the temple.

The Snake Farm or Queen Saowapha Memorial Institute is set up to produce anti-venom serum for snake-bite victims nationwide. Venom-milking and snake-handling shows are held daily at 10.30 am and 2.00 pm on weekdays, and 10.30 am on public holidays. It is located on Rama IV Road, near Henri Dunant Avenue, within the Thai Red Cross Institute. The Snake Farm is open to the public every day from 8.30 am to 4.00 pm on weekdays, and 8.30 am to 12.00 am on weekends and public holidays.

Meanwhile the main reason for a visit to the Crocodile Farm is though to see the shows they put on. It is possible to witness ‘Crocodile Wrestling’ and keepers putting their heads into crocodile’s mouths – quite amazing spectacles. In addition, there are a number of other activities for visitors. ‘Acrobatic elephant’ shows, elephant and camel rides, paddle boats on the lake and a visit to the ‘Monkey Playground’. The Crocodile Farm is open daily from 07:00 to 18:00. Located way out of Bangkok, a tour might prove the most effective for those with children. If you want to go on your own, a taxi is recommended.

Bangkok has several Floating Markets distinct to the location and different opening time. Some them are Taling Chan Market, Bang Ku Wiang Market, Tha Kha, and Damnoen Saduak.

Floating markets open everday are Damnoen Saduak Market (4 to 7am) and Bang Ku Wiang Market (7 to 11am). To go to Damnoen Saduak Market, take a bus from the Southern Bus Terminal to Samut Sangkhram Ratchaburi province, 80 km southwest of Bangkok. You can then walk along the passageway to the market, or take a boat to the market pier. Meanwhile to go to Bang Ku Wiang Market, on option is to rent a boat from Chang Pier (in Bangkok), and ask to be taken to Noi-Khlong Om-Bang Khu Wiang Floating Market. A cheaper option is to catch a boat from Wat Chalo Pier for a 45-minute ride to Bang Kruai .

On the weekends, there are Taling Chan (9am to 17pm) and Tha Kha (6am to 12noon). The Taling Chan is in close proximity to Bangkok. A strew of canals around the market can be visited by hired boat where small villages are revealed along the way. Homestays are also available for a truly Thai experience. Meanwhile the Tha Kha is rather special because its only open six days a month in accordance to the lunar calendar and has a much smaller amount of tourists compared to other floating markets.

Chatuchak Market was started as a flea market. Currently become a popular weekend market among the tourist. This huge sheer scale of place covering 5,000 stalls, sell various products with price that can be bargained. There are many food stalls in and around the market selling a wide range of cheap Thai food.

This market can be reached by BTS Skytrain to Mo Chit station. It's only open on Saturday and Sunday. Opening hours are 8:00 until around 18:00 but some shops stay open around until 8 o’clock.

Yaowarat is the Bangkok Chinatown. The area is of about two square kilometers. The two main roads of interest are Yaowarat Road and Rachawong Road, which is off Yaowarat Road. By far the most of the interesting attractions in this area are located in the two main areas of Yaowarat or Rachawong.

The streets have plenty of gold shops, with restaurants selling shark fin and birds nest soups. There are also plenty of traditional Chinese herbal medicine shops. Huge lines of glass jars full of colourful dried mushrooms, salted fish, dried seahorses and all manner of leaves, bark, roots and flowers, make this a very colorful and scented area to shop. Each year, during the Chinese New Year, Yaowarat Road is closed to traffic. This is to allow for prolific street parties, general festivities, lion dances and plenty of food fairs, showcasing the fusion cuisine of Chinese and Thai food. Often, a member of the Thai Royal family blesses the occasion to the immense joy, pleasure and pride of the residents and visitors to Chinatown alike.

Other than shopping, there another places of interest around Yaowarat. Some of them are temples such as; Wat Mangkon Kamalawat which become the center of festives during Chinese New Year and the vegetarian festival, Li Thi Miew Temple and Wat Chakrawat which houses of some very unusual building and also few crocodiles. There are also monuments such as; King's Birthday Celebration Arch which is located at the Odeon Circle, and King Rama I the Great Monument which is situated at the foot of Pathom Boromrachanuson or Rama I the Great Memorial Bridge on the Bangkok side.

The easiest way to reach Chinatown is by boat. Alight at the Ratchawong Pier and walk up Ratchawong Road to Sampaeng Lane or Yaowarat Road. You can also alight at the Harbor Department Pier, which is closer to Odeon Circle; or you can also use Memorial Bridge Pier, right at the flower market.
